NLPNP Skilled Worker
This category is for international workers and prospective immigrants who have skills that are beneficial to
the labour market. Eligible applicants must have a guaranteed offer of employment from a local employer or
currently be working in the province on a valid work permit. Employers must demonstrate a need for the
applicant’s skill set.

How do I apply for the Skilled Worker category?
Applicants can apply through the online application system and will receive regular dashboard
updates as their application moves through the assessment process.
Note: Applications in partially completed (not submitted) status will be closed after 90 days
from initiation.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A full-time job or job offer of at least two years with the possibility of extension from an eligible
Newfoundland and Labrador employer.
- Pay should meet provincial employment standards and prevailing wage rates.
- Contractual or locum positions shorter than 12 months are not eligible.
- Possess qualifications, training, skills, and accreditation required for the job.
- Be aged between 21 to 59 years.
- Hold a valid IRCC Work Permit with at least 4 months remaining or be eligible to apply for one.
- Intention and ability to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Sufficient settlement funds to establish yourself and dependents.
- English or French language capability to perform job duties.
- Occupations in NOC Code C or D must meet minimum language requirements.
- Refugee claimants must apply from outside Canada.
- Ownership in employer’s business must not exceed 10%.
You are not eligible if:
- You hold a Post-Graduate Work Permit (must apply under International Graduate category).
- You or dependents over 22 have a criminal record.
- You have unresolved custody or child support disputes.
- You have misrepresented yourself or your employer has misrepresented information.
- Your refugee claim has been rejected, abandoned, or withdrawn.
Important Notes:
- Ensure that passports and work permits are valid.
- You may be required to participate in an interview with a NLPNP Program Officer.
- If you lose or quit your job during the process, contact your Immigration Officer immediately.
- Fraudulent activities may result in criminal proceedings.
- Review your application and checklist carefully before applying.
- Application fee: $250.00 (non-refundable).
Decision-Making Process:
Service Standards: Normally, decisions are made within 25 business days after receiving a
complete application.
- Day 1–3: Application received and assigned to an officer.
- Day 4–20: Officer reviews application and recommends to delegated authority.
- Day 21–25: Final decision and notification to applicant.

- Background check by IRCC
- Visa Decision: Approval or Refusal (with options)
Payment Terms:
- Registration – 10% of total service charge
- Initiate application – 30% of total service charge (NLPNP Fee $250.00 by client)
- Decision from NLPNP – 20% of total service charge
- Visa Application – Fees by client
- Visa Decision – 40% of total service charge
